History

• The first Memorial Classic was held in 1989 and included an auction and sit-down dinner at the Design Center of the Americas. The first Legends Game was a 3-inning exhibition game, held before a Red Sox-Orioles spring training game at Joe Robbie Stadium.

• In 1992, the game was renamed as the Joe DiMaggio Legends Game.

• Our Legends support the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in many ways. The very first contribution to the Memorial Classic was a check for $100.00 from Ted Williams.

• Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson was the first player to send in his “yes” response letter for the game, and he is still participating, 24 years later.

• The Memorial Classic is now in its 25th year as a fundraiser for the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.

• Through the Memorial Classic, the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation has been able to fund programs for children and their families that could not otherwise be offered, such as the Conine Clubhouse.
